As soon as Kim Jones advertised on his Instagram that Drake, aka @champagnepapi, would be previewing his new song at the SS18 Louis Vuitton Menswear show, the world was ready. Not only the fashion world, but also the world or music and legions of Drake fans that that includes.
After the tsunami of success that followed the previous show, which showed Louis Vuitton collaborate with the streetwear legend, Supreme, there was no limit to what Kim Jones could do next, no limit to what trends he was going to bestow on us today.
With most of the shows’ advertising featuring a floral, aloha print, it was no surprise that the Hawaiian shirt made a come-back. The beach theme reappeared in the shape of neoprene wetsuit trousers – matched with a classic shirt and a socks and sandals combination. It didn’t look nearly as bad as it sounds. Is there no limit to what Kim Jones can make popular?
The LV mongrammed bags were smaller and more wearable than the luggage bags seen on the catwalk last season – there were cross body satchel bags, cross body ‘bum bags’ and a very endearing slouchy rucksack which relaxed off oversized rain macs.
To help merge the beach and safari themes, there was a denim bucket hat with a flat rim, highlighting the model’s cheekbones to perfection. The modern day equivalent to the Saint Laurent black fedora.
This show quite confidently cements Jones’ place as one of the most-followed and worshipped figures of the fashion industry.
