Alexander Wang has a punk power like no other. With each season he succeeds in creating an even more exciting all-black collection for his ‘Wang Woman.’
All you need to do is look at his equally punk front row to know see his vision unfold… His loyal supporters and friends never miss a season, head to toe in the collection, creating an extension of the runway when they’re photographed at the shows.
For AW17, Wang gave us staples: the perfect black leather boot, the essential black wool coat, the classic oversized blazer, and of course the obligatory denim and leather pieces.
The hounds-tooth that arrived mid-show really shook things up. Here, Wang shows his ability to maintain his signature style in a colour and pattern other than plain black. With Wang knowing his target market so clearly, these risks are never anything less than a complete success.
You can always rely on Wang to create some ‘to-die-for’ leather pieces. This season the leather was soft and used in classic pieces, such as the skinny trouser and the mini skirt, as well as some new styles such as the military esque trench and the embroidered waistcoat.
The low U neck-lines, frilled hemlines and parachute sleeves gave this collection a more feminine feel. However as quickly as it came, it was taken away, and replaced with true Wang grunge style in netted tops, oversized jumpers and chunky boots.
